I really do count it a privledge to be given the chance to document the lives of so many wonderful children and families. And the fact that they come back over and over and I get to see these little ones grow up is so special to me. I have wanted to do a shoot at this little ice cream shop ever since it opened… I had even planned to have our family photoshoot there this summer, but it was ALWAYS closed! Even when we arrived on the morning of this shoot, a big closed sign greeted us on the door. Disappointed, we decided to get out of the car and walk around and find some other places to shoot. By the time we got back to the car, an OPEN sign had magically appeared. It was our lucky day! And of course Lucy was thrilled with the idea of getting to eat ice cream for her photos. Here are a few of the other shots we got before the ice cream!

Lucy’s momma just happens to be the owner of the fabulous Pout Baby Boutique… and I would like you all to note that this chick had an emergency craniotomy in September. That’s right people… brain surgery… less than one month before these photos were taken. Amazing woman I tell you… but if you know her, you already knew that. Love ya Kris… we are so glad that you are okay!

Every kid that comes up to the studio just seems to love my BlaBla dolls. Lucy wanted to line them all up for a photo with her.. how cute! I mentioned to her mom how popular they are with the kids and that she should see if she could carry them at her store. I am so happy to report that these funky little sweater dolls will soon be available at Pout!

A few other notes….

***I will be out of the studio Thursday-Friday and will not be returning until Monday afternoon. I will be so excited to share my experiences with you when I get back as I will be doing something that I know will be among one of the MAJOR highlights of my career!

***Since I posted about being booked for the rest of 2009, I’ve received many requests to book into next year. Just to let you know, we will begin scheduling for Jan-May 2010 on October 1st of this year, for June-August 2010 on February 1st, and September-November 2010 on June 1st.

Leave it to me to break out the candy without asking mom first. When I commented on how much they seemed to be enjoying their suckers she replied, “that’s cause they’ve never had one before!” GULP. She assured me that it was okay… but I still felt really bad!

We tried to get a shot of them walking down the sidewalk together, but “E” always left “K” in the dust!

And check out the sneaky action in this series… so, so cute… and so glad I caught it! [In case you can't tell, "E" is stealing the yellow sucker right from "K's" mouth, tasting it and giving it back.]

And… the countdown is on! Only FIVE more days until I leave for Africa. I fly out on the 28th. If you are willing to donate items for me to bring to the children, they will need to dropped off (I could also pick them up from you!) by Monday. Thank you to those of you who have already donated! I can’t wait to see the faces of these children when they see what we have brought them. The three main things we are trying to collect are toothbrushes & toothpaste, kids’ underwear of all sizes, and pencils & plastic sharpeners. So far we have over 300 toothbrushes and over 1000 pencils… but would love to have many more to share!

The amazing woman who is leading this trip has a wonderful post on her blog about various prayer requests we will need during our journey. She has traveled to Africa before and has thought of so many things that would never have entered my mind. I can’t even tell you how helpful and encouraging she has been to me as I have been preparing for this adventure… usually freaking out asking her millions of questions. Thank you Brandi for calmly walking me through this process. I can’t wait to meet you in person! [And thank-you for adding to the prayer requests "PEACE for those traveling alone"... I know that one is for ME!]

This post is totally out of order, but I just finished working on them this afternoon and I wanted to surprise their mom with a quick peek at “O” & “L’s”photos. She will be especially surprised since she spent the session in the waiting area with her other two children while I got to work with the boys in the studio and even outside…so she has no idea what we even did. In case you didn’t know, that is my FAVORITE way to photograph! I just can’t get over how cute these boys were…let’s just say mom is going to have to keep them under lock and key when they are older just to keep the girls away. So Erica….you’ve been waiting weeks and weeks and your gallery is finally ready! Thank you for sharing your boys with me.

to meet this family and have the opportunity to photograph them. The mom and I had been in contact for several months about trying to set up a session and I’m so glad it finally worked out. She is such a calm laid back mom…when I arrived at their house she told me how they had just gotten back from camping and got ready for their photo shoot. Camping with five kids and then getting them all ready for pictures…and she was not phased a BIT! We did the session on their breathtaking property that had amazing trees and little trails…they even have chickens! It was like something straight out of a storybook.

Tiny Acorn was the name of my home daycare, and this cool dude spent over three years with me. It was so good to see him again…he has grown so much and is already starting kindergarten in the fall.

Happy Monday all! I hope you all had a great weekend. I had an amazing time at the Cully’s Kids event and am excited to share some images from the weekend soon. But today it’s these two goof-balls turn for a post! “K” was in for his 5-year photos last winter, and this time brought his little sister “A” with. They had their mom and I exhausted by the end of their session! It is funny because she thought they acted like total monsters (whatever…they were just kids being kids) and when she saw the photos she said…it actually looks like we had fun! I’m pretty sure they did! Hee hee…

He is going to be a heartbreaker…
They had matching “Rolling Stones” outfits….Ahhhhhhhhdorable.

At the lake…

“N” and “V’s” session was at their beatiful lake home…a nice change of pace for me! The weather that evening was perfect and the light was absolutely breathtaking!

And the last capture of the day and my absolute favorite. It reminds of how with photography, life really can become art. I can just imagine this image blown up into a huge canvas and hung on the wall of a lake home!

on my schedule! August is completely booked and a handful of sessions remain for September. All weekend appointments are booked through the end of the year. I will only be taking appointments through the first week of December (except for newborns), so if you were thinking of an appointment with me that month, e-mail me now! I will be working on my 2008 holiday card collection in the next month so look for that on my website under the featured tab soon. All card orders will need to be placed by Monday December 8th. Just a reminder that it takes up to 10 days for your gallery to be posted and then one week for you to place your order so if you are thinking of a session for holiday cards, you will need to have it scheduled before November 24th! I know it seems crazy to be thinking this far ahead, but it will be here before we know it.

Here are some photos from sessions I’ve done in the past few weeks! I’m so behind that I need to lump some together…
First up is a group of cousins who got together at their grandparent’s farm for their photo shoot. The surroundings were beautiful, the sky was bright blue and the weather was perfect!

Big sisters…big helpers. This sweet family was blessed with an adorable baby boy and the girls had so much fun helping me at his newborn session…and getting a few of their own photos taken as well!

And finally is this busy little two-year-old. I can tell you that most two-year-olds are not big fans of getting their photos taken, and little “H” was no different…but I think we managed to distract her long enough to make her forget that she wasn’t supposed to be enjoying herself. I LOVED her aqua polkadot dress!

This was probably the most fun I’ve ever had at a session. I had photographed two of the girls last winter and when I arrived they were so excited to see me they yelled “RIA” and came running for hugs which of course melted my heart! I met them at their Grandma and Grandpa’s farm which provided a gorgeous backdrop and the weather was simply perfect! We explored the farm, caught a frog, and I even got in a game of duck, duck goose. Thanks for the fun and great photos kiddos!

This sweet little lady got to be one of my first to have her session at the new studio. She spent most of the time running around being a typical two-year-old…giving me a workout trying to catch her looking at me. I was up to the challenge. One of the great things about the loft is the natural light that flows in from everywhere…so there is not a bad angle or low light area in the entire space! Here are my favorites…

I got to go to “B’s” house for his session and he had sidewalks with gorgeous big trees that made for the perfect backdrop. He was so cooperative with me and his mom…and we had a fun morning watching all the trucks go by, playing golf, riding trike and of course taking some photos too!

can’t live with ‘em…can’t live without ‘em. One of the things I hate most is computer trouble, and I’ve been having my share today. I’m about ready to pull my hair out! But….here’s some good news. The sun is FINALLY shining ~~ AND ~~ I’ve got some new photos to share with you. We had the most beautiful day at the park for this brother and sister’s session. ”J” was such a great help with his baby sister…thanks man!

And this little peanut butter just turned one…I know she thought I was a little bit crazy when I sat her in a chair in a bunch of weeds!

I am in need of models for an upcoming commercial shoot. Models and one parent must be available on Saturday June 7th for approximately 4 hours.

Needed are the following:

Newborn boy or girl (around 2-3 weeks old)

6-9 month old Asian boy or girl

Toddler boy under 2 years

12-15 month old African American girl

Please e-mail me a photo of your child by May 23rd and I will get you more information about the shoot and where your child’s photo will be seen!

For another project, I am looking for a 9-15 month old boy or girl with black curly hair. This child will receive a free session and discounted print prices. Again, you can e-mail me a photo of your child!

Yesterday I felt like such a lucky girl. I had three shoots scheduled and we had the most magnificent weather! Wow, it was fun. Here is one of my favorites of the day…. more to come as soon as I finish editing!

I told you I have had a lot of one-year-olds lately… and they were all girls! This adorable little girl had the cutest little earrings and had so much fun with her photo shoot, until we took her outside and made her sit in the grass…then she was not so happy with us!

when we did this photo shoot. Not sure where it went, but we enjoyed having the warm weather for little 18-month-old “A’s” session. Her mom even trusted me enough to not think I was crazy when I suggested we take off her clothes and put her in the woods!

This adorable two-year-old gave me a run for my money…literally! My view of her for most of the session looked something like this…

She ran and ran…and ran…and ran. And conveniently, it never seemed be towards me…just away from me. This wasn’t a typical toddler waddle-run either…I think she may have a future in sprinting! I bet I looked like quite a sight chasing this cute little girl in her pink tutu all around the park!

Here she is saying…”what, are you tired?”

So…we tried to bribe her to sit on these steps with some fruit snacks and she spontaneously did this….

So sweet! I think maybe she even tired herself out!

And a funny little story about this shot. I have never laughed so hard during a session as I did while I was taking this…..

Her mom had gotten her this big colorful lollipop so we set her up in this cool alley and unwrapped the sucker and gave it to her. She took a few licks and just as I started shooting she threw the lollipop on the road and it broke into all these little pieces. I could barely contain myself….infact I’m pretty sure I didn’t. I love the look on her face….like “how do you like THAT camera lady?”

So….we continued with half a lollipop….

from the last couple of weeks. So let’s get to it….

I don’t think “D” and “A” knew they would have this much fun at their photo shoot!

But we laughed and giggled almost the entire time…especially when we were trying to get them to walk down the middle of the street for this shot. They kept walking over to the side of the street so we had to explain to them that this was the ONE and ONLY time they could walk in the middle of the street!

And here is a photo from last fall that I came across the other day and fell in love with all over again. I am going to be working on a “sibling series” project so I am going through all of my sessions with siblings and choosing my favorite photos. I have such an emotional connection to so many of my images and this is definitely one of them! I loved those boys.

this just may be my favorite photo I’ve ever taken. There are a few different reasons why I fell in love with it the instant I saw it. One is that is so perfectly represents my style of photography. It is not a traditionally “perfect” photo…the lighting isn’t exactly right, the focus isn’t spot on, the background isn’t beautiful….

But…it does “perfectly” capture the relationship of these beautiful siblings. I love the way the baby brother is peeking out at me with this perfectly content and happy look on his face, knowing he is surrounded by pure and unconditional love.

This is another favorite image from this session because I think it captures so well the amount of energy these two boys have!

And here is the little SISTER …who was so shy at first, but really lit up when she saw my pink fluffy petticoat!

Finally…the BABY brother, who I have to say was the most content, easy-going baby I’ve ever met! Such a sweetie!

I’m back after my long weekend away and have an adorable little red-head to share with you!

A sweet one with mom.

Little “L” was a total girl, and fell in LOVE with my pink rain boots! Her favorite part of the session was when she got to wear the boots outside for a few shots…she cried and cried when it was time to take them off. So CUTE!
