photographerMAMA

It’s time to feel empowered, not intimidated by your camera.
Who should attend?
This workshop is intended for moms who are interested in learning how to take better photos of their kids! We will cover all the technical mumbo-jumbo such as aperature, shutter speed and ISO and how they all work together, as well as tips and techniques for capturing beautiful photos. We will not be addressing business topics or photoshop editing in this particular workshop. ***This workshop is NOT intended for those wishing to start a photography business.***
What will I need?
All workshop attendees will need to bring their own DSLR camera. (What’s a DSLR??? Basically just a digital camera that can change lenses.) Many people ask us for advice on what type of camera to buy, so here is my little rating scale.
-
Good: Canon Digital Rebel T3, Canon Digital Rebel T2i, Nikon D3000, Nikon D5100 ($500-$650 with kit lens)
-
Better: Canon Digital Rebel T3i, Canon 60D , Nikon D90 ($780-$980 body only)
-
Best: Canon Canon 7D, Canon 5D MarkII, Nikon D300, Nikon D7000, Nikon D700 ($1500-$2500 body only)
As for a lens for your camera, we would HIGHLY, STRONGLY (catch my drift?) recommend that you purchase either the 50mm f/1.8 or 50mm f/1.4 lens before the workshop. *** Nikon users please note: there are two models of the f/1.4 lens. Autofocus is NOT supported with the f/1.4D on the D40, D60, D3000, and D5000 camera bodies. Two online equipment stores we like to recommend are B&H Photo, and Adorama. You will also need to arrive with a willingness to make mistakes. You cannot become a better photographer without making mistakes!

Testimonials:
“I loved being a part of the photographerMAMA workshop! I am an amateur photographer who loves to capture special moments with my family, but was getting so frustrated with how my pictures were turning out. I had been trying to figure out aperture and shutter speed for over a year, but nothing ever clicked! Until I heard it explained by Ria as she demonstrated on her camera. I finally get it! I cannot recommend this class enough. I think I would actually do it again just to have the opportunity to shoot pictures in her amazing studio! The whole experience was fun and enlightening and amazing. I am so thankful to Ria for sharing her skill and talent. She is a delight! And believe me, it is a small price to pay to be able to see your family in pictures (that you take!) like you see them in your heart.“ -Amanda R. Shafer,MN
“I have been following Ria’s work ever since the beginning of rialee photography. She has been such an inspiration to me! I actually remember wanting to have her take my kids’ pictures and then hoping that she would give me some tips while she was busy at work; sneaky…I know. I was able to get those questions answered with this workshop, and then some! It was worth every penny to go to the photographerMAMA workshop. It gave me the opportunity to see what goes on behind the scenes, with one of the best in the business!! Ria gave us plenty of time to ask questions, which I loved. The biggest thing that I took away from the workshop was how much of an impact the photographer has on the outcome of the child’s expressions, and how they can make their personalities shine. Ria did just that; she was truly wonderful with them! I would encourage anyone to attend a photographerMAMA workshop. I promise that you will return home full of ideas and inspiration. I have told Ria that this experience has been one of the highlights of my life, besides marrying my husband and having our four children! I would love to go again, if given the opportunity! What are waiting for? GO get inspired! -Tara S. New York Mills, MN
“I am grateful to rialee photography for offering such a fabulous, inspiring workshop! I came to the photographerMAMA workshop last spring using my Canon Rebel XSI as a glorified point and shoot camera. I was so intimidated by the small machine with no time to read (or understand!) the instruction manual in the midst of chasing after our now four young boys. The workshop totally met my expectations – I went home knowing how to finally use my Digital SLR camera on a setting other than Auto! I truly love the photos I’ve taken using the manual settings we practiced with at the workshop and I’ve been motivated to photograph the ordinary moments in our life as LIFE and not as just another cheesy smile. I’ve also really enjoyed the recommended 50 mm f/1.8 lens and used it to capture our boys in a summer story displayed in our stairwell at home. The photographerMAMA workshop is a priceless investment, designed for any mom who really wants to learn to use her camera and tell her family story in a special way.“ -Jennifer S. Kindred, ND
I asked Jennifer if I could post a photo of the display on her wall. She is truly one of my photographerMAMA success stories!
